What does wisdom mean to you? How does it show up in your everyday life?

wise old owlMerriam-Webster defines wisdom as: “ability to discern inner qualities and relationships: insight: good sense: judgment: generally accepted belief.”

Thesaurus.com lists 43 synonyms for wisdom. A few of them are common sense, intelligence, insight, judgement, knowledge, balance, enlightenment, clear thinking, good judgement.

The same Thesaurus.com lists only 6 antonyms for wisdom. Sometimes we can gain insight by looking at the opposite: ignorance, imprudence, inability, ineptness, stupidity, thoughtlessness.

I believe that the inner wizard’s home is in the third eye chakra. This chakra is home to perception, intuition, imagination, intelligence and more. With a strong connection to your heart, your inner wizard can be a superb guide.

Understanding the role of perception in your daily life is essential to bringing forth your inner wizard. Tips for connecting with your Inner Wizard

1. Manage Stress

The first step here is to understand how your nervous system works. See my last blog, Ultimate Self-Care, for insight on this: https://soundwellness.com/ultimate-self-care/

2. Connect with Your Heart

Your brain does not have the capacity to manage your life, especially when things are challenging. Your heart does.

I have written many articles for the Sound Wellness blog with ways to connect with your heart. Here is one of my favorites. There are several links in this blog for you to explore to connect even more deeply to that beautiful heart of yours: https://soundwellness.com/live-from-the-heart/

3. Spiritual Practice

Having a consistent spiritual practice is essential for connecting you to the greater wisdom of the universe. The more chaotic your outside world – the more essential your spiritual practice!

Meditation for Connecting with Your Inner Wizard

About 20 years ago, I was faced with a choice. I had been in a shamanic training program for about 4 years and had to commit to a 10-year apprenticeship to continue. My learning in this program was profound creating deep inner transformation and wisdom. I greatly valued what I had learned but was hesitating about continuing. The reason for my hesitation, was that I also had an opportunity to deepen my learning about sound healing. I could not do both. And I could not decide.

When my inner wizard first walked down this path towards me, it took a form of a tornado, about six feet tall. As this tornado whirled in front of me, it transformed into a woman that looked like the Fairy Godmother from Cinderella. She sat down beside me and I asked her for her thoughts about my choice.

She shook her finger in front of my face, and immediately exclaimed, “You MUST go and deepen your study of sound healing!” Well! That was that! She was adamant that this was my path, and she was right! So that is what I did.

Every time since then, when I have connected with my inner wizard, the tornado usually appears and sometimes a being like Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings shows up. It seems that the inner wizard will take whatever form needed to help convey the wisdom you seek. At least in my experience.

Here are some basic steps to the meditation for you to connect with your own inner wizard.

Before you go into this meditation, you might want to contemplate what it is you ask of your inner wizard. Like any friendship, there is a balance or harmony of giving and receiving. Your inner wizard may have a request for you.

  1. Go to a quiet space in your home where you won’t be disturbed.
  2. This is a meditation where you will connect with your inner wizard or inner wise one. As you settle into relaxation, create the intention that you wish to connect with your inner wizard.
  3. As you settle into your inner space, imagine you are in your favorite sacred space in nature.
  4. In front of you is a path that begins in the distance and ends at your feet. Ask your inner wizard to walk down the path towards you.
  5. A word of encouragement here – Stay open and avoid interference from your conscious mind. Stay out of your own way and allow this to happen.
  6. Engage in a conversation with your inner wizard or ask your question. Remember, you are creating a friendship.
  7. As you complete your conversation, thank your inner wizard for sharing insight. Thank your beautiful sacred space and all the beings that hold this space sacred.
  8. Return to your space in your home with some deep breaths and stretches.
  9. Journal about the wisdom you received.
