The Cymatics Sounder
The study of the effect of wave form (or sound) on matter is called Cymatics. It comes from the Greek word “κῦμα” (pronounced ci.ma).
Dr. Hans Jenny (1904-1972), was a Swiss doctor, artist and researcher. He documented the effect of specific frequencies on sand, spores, water, turpentine, iron filings and other substances that were placed on a vibrating plate or membrane. Dr Jenny created a machine called a tono-scope that would send the precise frequency to the plate, through a vibrating crystal. He used a crystal oscillator that would vibrate the plate to a precise frequency. This way, he knew the exact sound or frequency that created the specific forms on the plate.
There’s nothing like seeing for yourself the effect that sound has on matter, and for that, we have our own version of the cymatics sounder.
