I have been contemplating about these four things lately and wanted to share some thoughts with you…

tree poseFirst, some thoughts Balance and Tree pose from my book, “Listen from the Inside Out”:

“Speaking about balance, let me share with you about my adventures with the tree pose in my yoga class.

I have snapped ligaments in both my ankles in previous falls. Around each ankle, I have only one ligament left of the three that are supposed to give you stability. At least it gives me a valid excuse for those moments of klutziness.

I love my yoga class, but I am seriously challenged by the balance poses (like Tree Pose) where you have to stand on one leg and make the rest of your body look something like a pretzel.

However, I have learned some interesting things about balance.

When I am attempting to stand on one leg, my foot is constantly adjusting – except when I fall over. When I contemplate that in its application to my everyday life, that means that balance in my life is constantly adjusting.

To me, balance is not a static condition. It has come to mean adjustment so I don’t fall over. That also takes the pressure off keeping in balance. If I am really out of it, I just adjust the best I can in that moment.”

Now we come to Harmony.

To me, Harmony is the higher vibrational version of Balance.

Harmony describes a WHOLE state. One that is pleasing and in agreement. Harmony is coherence, symmetry and unity.

As human beings, our NATURAL STATE is harmony – including bliss and connection. We are in CONSTANT connection with our source, higher self, spirit, God, Goddess or however you describe this state.

This state was really brought home to me in reading Jill Bolte Taylor’s story of her stroke and recovery process in her book, “My Stroke of Insight.” brain connection

Immediately following her stroke, which incapacitated a great deal of the left side of her brain, she experienced a constant state of bliss when the logical part of her brain was out of commission.

It’s THERE! All the time! WITHIN us – physically – and connecting us to the higher vibrational part of ourselves.

The problem is that we aren’t usually AWARE of this connection. Western culture has emphasized the left, logical functioning of our brains so much that we have lost connection with the other side.

This is not out of balance – this is out of HARMONY!

Neuroscience has shown that playing music (or singing a song) is an activity that activates MORE of your brain than ANY other activity – both sides and in harmony!!

Music and sound has been an essential part of human existence since before we could speak to each other with words! There’s a good reason for that.

It creates harmony in every part of our lives!!

Here is something you can do to create a moment of harmony to start your day with, using the most powerful tool you have for creating harmony within you – your own voice.

Every day, on the Sound Wellness Facebook page, you will find a Toning Moment. Using simple vowel sounds, cycling through the vowels connected with the chakras, you can start your day with a sound and intention to create harmony.
