Many years ago when my husband and I were experiencing multiple challenges of the death of a parent and loss of a job, I had a blast from the quiet voice of my soul that shook me to my core.

I will never forget. One evening while I was preparing dinner in the kitchen, my mind was completely overtaken by the critical and fearful voice. I remember yelling out to the universe with my mind the question, “Why do we have to feel so much fear?!”

In a microsecond, an answer appeared in my mind so loud that it drowned out the fearful diatribe. The answer was, “To learn not to be afraid.”

This was not the voice of my ego. In a microsecond, it silenced that voice and I stood there in shock.

Once I recovered from my shock, I sent a thank you to whatever part of me, angel, being or guide yelled that answer into my mind. It wasn’t the answer I wanted to hear, but it was what I needed to know in that moment. And it gave me great courage.

This quiet voice of the soul brings to us solutions to many of the problems we face as a human family. As we all learn to listen and to tell the difference between the voice of the ego and the voice of the soul, we will find our way back to the brilliant beings that sit in the heart of every one of us.

How to Listen for Your Soul’s Voice:

  1. Bring your awareness to your breath. Notice the air flowing gently in and out. Notice if it feels cool or warm. Notice if your lungs fill from the bottom up or top down. Notice the sensation of your chest gently rising and falling.
  2. Now bring your awareness gently to the beginning and ending of your breaths. Notice the small pause between the inbreath and the outbreath.
  3. If you notice the pauses getting longer as you bring your awareness to them – allow that.
  4. During the next pause after the inbreath or the outbreath – ask a question like: “What do I need to know in this moment?” or “What is true for me?”
  5. Allow your mind to be quiet and during the next pause listen for the answer.

If you feel you didn’t get a response. Be patient. You might need a little more practice to hear this voice.
