Last week, Ed and I were in Ontario sharing Sound Wellness with clinical staff from a health centre. We worked with tuning forks, unwinding emotions and ended with a sound bath with ancient Tibetan singing bowls, crystal singing bowls, chimes, tuning forks and more.

tuning forkEveryone had an opportunity to work with tuning forks in their hands and to explore and evaluate whether or not these were tools to support their well-being.

I will be the first one to tell you that you are wired to respond to sound from your atoms to your energetic bodies. And what sounds work to support your well-being may be complete junk sound for your best friend. Exploration and critical thinking are essential when it comes to choosing sounds that will support your health and well-being.

Sound is food for your nervous system. And I’m sure you have heard about junk food, good food and super food. It’s the same with sound. There is junk sound, like traffic noise or music that makes your skin crawl. There is good sound, like nature sounds, or your favorite song.

And then there is super sound. The kind of sound that eliminates pain, like a tuning fork; boosts your immune system, like a Tibetan bowl; connects you with that beautiful spirit self of yours, like a sound bath.

That said, sound healing and sound therapy is not for everyone. It may be that some of these work for you or none of these work for you. It is important to experience the sound(s) and evaluate their effect.

As we explored the tuning forks with the staff of the health center, the results were mixed. Most people loved the sound of the perfect fifth tuning forks. At least two people did not like the sound or the effect of these forks. Diversity of response to the sounds was certainly evident that day and to be expected.

As we moved on to exploring the 128 Hz and 64 Hz tuning forks there was a fascinating diversity of response to these forks too. From tingling in the legs, creating a calm feeling, no response at all, relaxation of muscles and more.

As we completed our exploration of the tuning forks, one woman was so excited to share her experience. She said, “You know, I came here this morning thinking that this experience would be BullSh*t. But I have NO PAIN in my shoulder.”

She had been suffering from intense joint pain and limited range of motion for months following her treatment for breast cancer, and was incredulous that after only a few minutes with the 64 Hz fork, there was no pain and almost full range of motion. She shared several times for the balance of our time together that there was still no pain. ***

*** Each one of us has their own responses to sound and music. And it is for that reason that we teach such a wide variety of options. And while this woman’s response was incredibly supportive, as are most, your results may be different. Hence the need to test-test-test.

I thanked her for joining us with a critical mind and yet a willingness to explore. What a gift she found for herself that day!

If you have been drawn to explore sound healing or sound therapy as a way to support your wellbeing, I encourage you to approach it with an open mind and test, test, test to see if you get results.

That is why I am always providing opportunities for you to experience and evaluate for yourself, whether or not sound healing or sound therapy is a solution for you. Here are a few of these opportunities:

1. Sound Wellness Chakra Toning Circle on Sunday evenings.

The next circle is July 2 at 8pm PT / 11pm ET.

Your voice is the most powerful healing tool you have. It resonates every cell of your body with every sound that you make. This creates actual physical response in your body (like strengthening your immune system), emotional response (like calm and peace), mental response (like more focus), and spiritual connection – your voice is the voice of your heart and of your soul. This active meditation practice uses the sacred vowel sounds associated with the chakras. Join us for this weekly circle of sacred sound, created by the voices and hearts in this circle, to enhance health, harmony and brilliance!
