March, 2012 has been a pretty heavy duty emotional month for me and for many people I know. I thought it would be of service to reprint an article I wrote in Aug. of 2008. There are some great suggestions here for using sound to move through pretty deep emotional upset.

What do you do when the emotional rollercoaster starts rocketing toward the bottom of the loop? What do you do when the CD or vocal sound you have been using creates an emotional reaction? This can show up in many ways and feel uncomfortable and uncontrollable. It can lead to crying that you can’t stop, unreasonable anger, mood swings and can be a little frightening.

Clearing old emotional blocks has a huge benefit to your health and balance. Sometimes we don’t even know that they are there until they have been loosened up and start moving. Sound, either on a CD or your own voice is one of the most powerful tools we have to help this process. Sound works at the cellular level where these blocks are stored.

In this situation, you have three choices:

  • Ignore the reaction and hope it will go away
  • Stuff the emotions back into your body
  • Allow them to flow, feel the feelings and let them go

Many people tend to be “stuffers.” When an emotional reaction comes up that they don’t want to deal with, it gets stuffed inside and not expressed. Emotions create a physical response in the body of a release of neuropeptides. The physical peptide network touches every cell of your body. “Stuffing” an emotional reaction stops the movement and flow of these peptides and they get planted somewhere in your body. Do this enough times and you can end up with any of a long list of uncomfortable physical symptoms.

If there is a frequency match between the sounds you are listening to or creating and some of this stuffed emotional energy, it can loosen it up get it moving again. When it moves you are going to notice it. Especially if you have just loosened up a mass of emotional energy that has been sitting there for a few years, not to mention decades. It can be pretty challenging when that “stuff” hits the proverbial “fan.”

If you have loosened up several years of emotional reactions that have been planted into your body, congratulations! You have taken a huge step towards bringing yourself into balance. Take a deep breath and allow them to flow. It’s not easy and takes considerable courage to do this. (My CD, “Transmutation, shed the negative” is specifically designed for this process.)

Here are a few things that have helped me move through these situations with strength and grace.

  1. If you work with guides and/or angels ask for their support and guidance.
  2. Go within and determine if your body and emotions need to continue to loosen up this “stuff.” If your answer is yes, you can continue to use the CD you were using or vocal sounds to move these emotions or choose a CD or sound that you feel strongly will support your release of this emotional energy.  This time add your strength and conscious intent traveling on the sound as it moves through your body. If you are listening to a CD, you can also tone, groan, cry or make any sound your body wants to make to help this process. Sometimes I have combined yoga postures with toning to help this stuff move. Encourage these emotions to move and move out of your body. Create the intention that this is done with strength and gentleness.
  3. When you feel that the emotional release is complete, you will probably spontaneously stop toning, groaning or crying if you were using these sounds to support your process. Go within and feel if there is a difference in your body.
Also, and very importantly, move your awareness to your field around your body. Check in to feel if the energy has also moved out of your field or is moving out. Ask your guides and angels to support the movement of this energy out of your field to move it on to its next level of growth. This intention supports the continued movement of this energy away from you and not back to you. It may still be magnetized. If you are familiar with cutting cords of attachment, do this with this energy.
  4. Once you feel your body and field are clear or clearing, do something to calm and support you. Put on some calming music, dig in the garden, plant seeds, go for a walk, play with your pet, drink water, have a snack or a nap. You may feel you need to rest after this experience. Honour that feeling.

Our emotions have great power over our state of health and general balance in our lives. They also have a deep connection with the subconscious mind. For many of us, healing has to do with clearing some of these old emotional blocks and the more tools we have in our toolkit, the better. Sound is a great tool. It is the stuff of creation itself and works at all levels of our being.
